About This Work
Jumpin’ Jukes takes one of the great icons of mid-century American culture — the jukebox — and gives it the full Burton Morris treatment: bold, graphic, and bursting with energy. The jukebox is the perfect Morris subject: a machine designed purely for pleasure, a vessel for music and memory, an object that is itself a kind of Pop art. In his hands it becomes something even more — a celebration of the moment when a coin drops, a song begins, and everything else falls away.
What sets Jumpin’ Jukes apart from anything else in the Morris catalogue is its physical form. The Masonite gesso board version is a 3-D pop-out image — at 4 inches deep, the jukebox literally projects from the wall, blurring the boundary between print and sculpture. Available in red, blue, and purple, the three colourways are designed as a set, each reading differently while forming a coherent triptych. This is not a print to be framed behind glass; it is an object to be encountered.
Edition & Substrate
The Masonite gesso board version is limited to 30 sets of 3 — one in each colourway — making each individual colour impression part of a complete triptych edition. The paper version is also limited to 30 impressions. Both are among the smallest editions in the Morris print market. The Masonite board’s rigid, archival construction requires no backing and no framing — it mounts directly to the wall as a self-contained sculptural object.
