Joan Miró

Joan Miró

1893 – 1983

Joan Miró i Ferrà was a Spanish painter, sculptor, and ceramicist born in Barcelona. Celebrated as one of the most significant figures of twentieth-century art, Miró developed a visual language that defied easy categorization — drawing from Surrealism, Fauvism, and Expressionism while remaining entirely his own.

His work is instantly recognizable: bold primary colors, biomorphic forms, and a sense of playful yet profound imagination. Miró described his canvases as a space where poetry, music, and painting converged — a world of signs, symbols, and dreams rendered in paint.
